In India cerebral palsy is a big threat to health professionals and even society. There are approximately 330000 people with cerebral palsy. Worldwide, the incidence of cerebral palsy is 1 in 500 births. For most people with cerebral palsy, the cause is unknown.

Cerebral Palsy is a syndrome as the following a combination of characteristics can be seen:

  • Motor Disorder.
  • Medical Conditions.

  • Language & Perceptual Deficits.
  • Behavioural Problems.

Causes:

  • Intrauterine viral infections (torch).
  • Pollution (affect of environmental toxins).
  • Poor oxygenation of brain as a result of placental factors.
  • Vascular factors (Congenital heart disease, sepsis, etc).

Peri Natal

  • Birth asphyxia.
  • Damage to the white master of the brain.
  • Severe untreated jaundice, hypoglycemia.
  • Sepsis (Meningitis, encephalitis).
  • Premature infant with complications.
  • Intracranial bleeding.
  • Multiple births.

Post Natal

  • Infections (bacterial of viral).
  • Post-surgical vascular complications.
  • Asphyxia due to aspiration.
  • Traumatic brain injury.

  • Diplegia (both legs were involved than arms).
  • Quadriplegia (all form extremities involved).
